Piney Point was built by Sarah's great-grandfather Stuart Dodd and his brothers Carter and Ned Dodd in 1925. Its name comes from the fact that it lies on a peninsula (or land point, if you will), surrounded by water on three sides. The cabin originally had an outhouse and no running water, but was modernized to have indoor plumbing in 2007. Otherwise, it has stayed very true to it's 1925 look.
Sarah has been coming to Piney Point almost every summer for her entire life, as has her mom, her grandfather, and much of her matrilineal family. Ben first visited the cabin in 2017, and has come back every year since, including living there for part of the pandemic. Both of us feel really connected to this place, and we are really excited to share it with the most important people in our lives.
Dodd Woodlands, a ten minute walk from Piney Point, was designed by Bruce Dodd (Sarah's grandfather) in 2019, and completed in 2023. It was one of his lifelong dreams to build a house next to the house that his father built, and to host as many family and friends there as possible. We hope to make good on this dream at the wedding!
Both cabins have electricity, running water, and a bathroom. We will also be renting porta-potties for the event.
There is very limited cell phone service at either house. We will work to have internet at the event, however.
Terrain around and between both houses is somewhat rugged (imagine a well-maintained hiking trail) and we will be walking between the houses at some point during the day. Please have appropriate footwear!
You can swim and boat in Long Pond, so if you are interested, come prepared! You probably will not have time to swim the day of the wedding, but perhaps that night or the day after you will...
Sadly, the location is a food desert, so if necessary, plan ahead. The nearest grocery store with fresh produce is roughly 30 minutes north; if you plan to buy food, it may be easiest to do so in a more populous location. (Of course we will provide dinner the night of the event---this is to be aware of for other meals).
This is the largest event Piney Point has ever hosted! We are so excited to share it with you, and appreciate your patience in dealing with the logistics of a DIY event in the middle of nowhere...
