Big picture (details are below):
Both houses are located on 61 & XX Helm Drive, which is a dirt road off of NY Route 22; the houses are about a 10 minute walk from each other
Anyone interested is welcome to camp on the property the night of August 1, 2026
For those who do not want to camp, the closest town with hotels and restaurants is Essex, NY
We recommend booking a place to stay in either Essex, NY or Willsboro, NY.
Note that these towns are extremely small and there are not a huge number of lodging options nearby---so we recommend booking as soon as possible!
In addition to the suggested places below, there are several houses/cabins nearby in Willsboro, NY (which seems to be slightly cheaper than Essex, NY)
Please indicate that you are not planning to stay at Piney Point in the RSVP, so we can plan (mainly parking) accordingly.
There are camping spots around both houses, and we encourage you to camp the night of August 1, especially if you plan to drink/want to stay up late!
Please bring a sleeping bag and sleeping pad. If we need you to bring a tent, we will let you know personally. There will be a chance to set up the tents on the day of the event. Note that it will not be particularly private: you will probably be camping close to other people. We ask that you do not try to camp in your car, as parking will already be tight at the event.
Please indicate that you are interested in camping on the RSVP so that we can plan accordingly
If you are camping, we ask that you do not bring your car to Piney Point, as we need to prioritize parking for people that plan to leave the night of the event. Instead, you will park in Essex, NY overnight (there is free overnight street parking) and we will coordinate shuttles to the event. We will be in touch with details! Sorry for the inconvenience.
The closest airports are in Burlington, VT and Montreal, QC. In both cases, you would need to rent a car or coordinate a ride, as Willsboro has no semblance of public transportation. If you fly to Burlington, you get to take the ferry across Lake Champlain, which is beautiful! However, it may be easier to find a direct (and sometimes cheaper) flight to Montreal, in which case you get to visit the amazing city of Montreal. You might also want to check flights to Albany, and then rent a car.
We recommend taking the ferry if you're coming from Vermont, it's a fun ride and saves a lot of driving time. At some point during the drive you will likely lose cell service so here are the important navigation details:
Arriving via I-87: Exit 33 for Keeseville, at the end of the ramp turn right (if traveling north) or left (if traveling south) onto NY-22 South. Follow NY-22 South for 4 miles until you see a brown street sign to your right that says "Helm Way". There is a collection of handmade signs on the telephone pole at the top of the driveway. One of them says "Dodd Davis". Follow the dirt road all the way to the end, don't turn off left or right just stay straight.
Arriving via Charlotte, VT / Essex, NY Ferry (~$20, runs during the daytime): When you disembark the ferry in Essex NY turn right onto the main road (NY-22). Follow NY-22 North through the town of Willsboro. Stay on NY-22 for about 9 miles until you see a brown street sign to your left that says "Helm Way". There is a collection of handmade signs on the telephone pole at the top of the driveway. One of them says "Dodd Davis". Follow the dirt road all the way to the end, don't turn off left or right just stay straight.
Arriving via Crown Point (Lake Champlain Bridge from VT to NY): After you cross the bridge into New York state the road you are on will end at the intersection of NY-9N (Empire State Trail). Turn right onto NY-9N and continue for about 18 miles through the towns of Port Henry and Westport (bear left in Westport to stay on NY-9N) until you reach I-87. Enter I-87 Northbound and stay on the highway for about 17 miles. Follow instructions above "Arriving via I-87".
Unfortunately, parking at the event will be limited and possibly our biggest challenge. So we have to plan ahead...
If you are camping: you will park in Essex, NY overnight, and we will coordinate shuttles to the event.
If you are not camping: we ask that you try to find as large a carpool group (i.e. family and friends you know) as possible to get to and from the event. We will ask about this in the RSVP. If necessary, we may assign you a carpool group, based on (roughly) when you plan to leave.
